Aerospace System Engineer (Ground Segment)
To provide consultancy to the Systems Engineering Division in performing system engineering and design activities at Ground Segment system level (either for evolutions of operational Ground Segments or as new designs for new development of future programmes.) You will provide consultancy to engineering activities related to the ground segments for the new programmes.

Key Responsibilities:

Your tasks are related to different phases in the life cycle of Exovision systems. They will mainly correspond to various stages of the Detailed Design –Phase C- of a given programme under definition and development, and Phase D (Implementation and Validation), as support to Integration, Verification and Validation.

  • The ground segments of Exovision programmes consist of TTC and Payload Data acquisition ground stations, mission management and control systems, data and product processing, monitoring, archiving, data dissemination plus the associated network fabric elements supporting data distribution and circulation, plus underlying sites and infrastructure.
  • You will perform typical system engineering activities in the lifecycle of a system, such as:
    Design – defining the conceptual build and configuration which results in a physical architecture, described by its complete functional, physical and software characteristics;
    • Technical analyses – which are performed for the purpose of resolving requirements conflicts, assessing system effectiveness and justification of the proposed conceptual and physical designs with consideration to the suitability of COTS and reuse of operational components developed in the context of ground segments;
    • Technical trade-offs – for assessing dependability, effectiveness, risks, efforts and planning;
    • Planning and preparation for integration and verification, with the final objective to demonstrate that the deliverables conform to the specified requirements
  • Specifically, for ground segment phase C and D, you shall provide consultancy in the following areas:
    refinement, management and maintenance of the GS system requirements, ensuring correct flow-down and implementation during the element level developments;
    • Ground Segment detailed design addressing the overall design of the ground segment system and its physical elements, including the GS deployment views, and generation of the associated architectural design documentation;
    • completion of the detailed design of GS components, including analyses (architectural trade-offs, system technical budgets, risk analyses) to ensure completeness and coherence of the design for all aspects related to system engineering;
    • definition and refinement of GS external interfaces, and internal interfaces between the different GS elements, and their documentation in ICDs;
    • refinement and maintenance of the ground segment model;
    • preparation of the documentation for the GS Critical Design Review (CDR) and the review itself, as part of the ground segment project team, i.e., providing answers to and supporting the resolution of issues raised.

Key Requirements:

  • You shall have a university degree (or equivalent) in the domain of engineering or science, together with at least 5 years of demonstrated experience in the following areas and disciplines
  • Experience in system engineering practices and processes, especially in the field of space systems engineering, including knowledge of ECSS standards and system life cycle processes.
  • Experience in model-based system engineering, including the use of modelling and design tools in support of design activities.
  • Experience in performing technical budgets, trade-offs, and analyses.
  • Extensive experience in the specification, design, implementation, integration, and verification of large and complex Earth Observation ground segments.
  • Experience in the preparation of ground segment documentation relating to requirements, design, and interfaces engineering.

The following knowledge/experience would represent additional assets:

  • Knowledge the following systems and related technologies: (i) Near Real-Time Data Processing chains, (ii) Satellite Mission Control and operations systems, (iii) Ground Stations, (iv) Data archive & retrieval, and dissemination systems.
  • Experience in management and traceability of complex requirements structures.
  • Experience with DOORS.
  • Experience in ground segment IV&V planning and execution
  • You shall be able to fulfil the assigned tasks without supervision, have a systematic approach to work, be able to plan your work and to cope with tight schedules and multiple tasks. You shall have the capability to write accurate and consistent technical documentation. Good communication skills (verbal and written) are important.
  • You shall be willing to provide consultancy to a team of engineers and in cooperation with industry and partner agencies.
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of autonomy and good analytical skills.

By joining the Exovision family, you will enjoy all the benefits of a highly competitive salary in a diverse and sustainable work environment, working remotely as well as flexible work times, strong opportunities for advancement and training across technical, language and soft skills and a generous holiday package and company pension scheme. Furthermore, Exovision offer full support to you and your family with our comprehensive relocation package
